August Business Spotlight: Cherokee Nation Career Services

Tell us about your business/organization. – Cherokee Nation Career Services provides tribal citizens with employment training opportunities, career education and job assistance. The department also helps bring industry into Northeastern Oklahoma by offering recruiting fairs and employee training. Career Services also oversees many vital programs for the tribe, such as the TERO office, Youth Employment Program, Job Corps, Adult Education Program, Vocational training, Reentry program and more.

What services are available that people may not realize they can receive from your organization? – Career Services offers several in-house training programs, as well as, assistance to those who are enrolled in vocational training or associate of Applied Arts and Applied Science degree programs. In addition to programs for the general public, there are also programs specific to housing residents, individuals with disabilities, and youth.

How has participating in the Muskogee community been a benefit to your organization? – The Career Services Muskogee location, on South Country Club, is just one of nine Cherokee Nation Career Services offices that are located throughout the Cherokee Nation reservation across Northeast Oklahoma. Cherokee Nation Career Services has been grateful to be a part of the Muskogee community. This location serving as a primary resource for the Cherokee Nation citizens that reside in Muskogee and the surrounding areas.

What upcoming events is the community invited to participate? – Be on the lookout for Cherokee Nation’s 70th Annual Cherokee National Holiday. Featuring a return to in-person activities, the celebration will be held over Labor Day weekend in September and will include a new fishing tournament, corn hole competitions, the return of traditional games, an inter-tribal powwow, softball tournaments and other long-time favorites.

This year, most Holiday activities will be held in-person Sept. 1-4 in and around Tahlequah, Okla., the capital city of the Cherokee Nation. For more information on the celebration, please check out our website at www.thecherokeeholiday.com
