2020 Annual Meeting


Muskogee, OK February 20, 2020:  As a Chamber we depend heavily on strong volunteer leadership to fulfill our mission and serve the businesses in Muskogee.  To help recognize individuals who have shown exemplary success and distinguished themselves in their profession, and in Muskogee, we honored the service of five Chamber members at our Annual Meeting on Thursday, February 20, 2020.


The 2019 Volunteer of the Year winner was Joy Sloan.  This award is reserved for the Chamber member who has demonstrated the traits of exceptional volunteerism by taking a leadership role with the Chamber. Joy serves the Chamber and Tourism, and the Muskogee community in many capacities. She is a very active member, volunteering her time at several events and activities. She is truly fulfilled through community involvement and helping others.


The Muskogee Tourism Award winner was the Exchange Club of Muskogee for Okie Jeep Jam. The Muskogee Tourism Award recognizes an entity that participates in activities or initiatives that promote or enhance Muskogee as a tourist destination; they have embraced and promote the Real.Okie brand, are deeply invested in Muskogee with both their time and financial resources, provide constant, excellent customer service, show the Okie Pride. In 2019, this team of volunteers was key to the successful introduction of the Okie Jeep Jam which brought over 200 Jeeps to Muskogee and contributed to Muskogee’s economy in many ways. Each year this group dedicates countless volunteer hours to create outstanding and memorable events designed to attract visitors to Muskogee and give back to the community.


The Muskogee Small Business of the Year winner was Muskogee Brewing Co. & Station 1. This award is given to a Muskogee business and Chamber member with 10 or less full-time employees and whose roots were started and have stayed in Muskogee. They had a dream and took a chance on this business and it has paid off! The hard work by many is a huge contributing factor to their success and sets the trend for growth and development in not only downtown but Muskogee as a whole.


The Muskogee Business of the Year recipient was Georgia-Pacific. The Muskogee Business of the Year award goes to a Chamber member and has demonstrated their dedication to Muskogee in several ways that include: playing an active role in the community through diverse, philanthropic efforts; employees are active in volunteer work and participate in community activities; and have had a long-standing part of the success of the Chamber. Georgia-Pacific has a huge economic impact, not only on Muskogee but also the state of Oklahoma. They were able to overcome a fire at the mill in May, getting employees back to work within days. Georgia-Pacific is also a tremendous supporter of many local organizations including the Chamber of Commerce.


The Okie from Muskogee Award recipient was Ann Ong. In 2009, the Chamber awarded the first Okie from Muskogee and each year since, a volunteer and member of the Chamber has been recognized. Ann is behind many successful programs in Muskogee and is a huge supporter of the arts in Muskogee. She has a passion that runs deep and is truly proud to be an Okie from Muskogee!
